Dear Battle of Columbus Supporters and Martial Artists Worldwide;

Supreme Grandmaster Joon P. Choi founded the Battle of Columbus in 1976 with the big dream that martial artists from around the world studying any and all disciplines and styles could come together as one, united in the common root of Martial Art.
A visionary ahead of his time, SGM Choi fostered this dream throughout his entire lifetime, and the Battle of Columbus has prevailed every single year for nearly five decades (with the exception of 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic).
Further, I am immensely proud to say that in 2023 our team conducted one of the most successful and smoothly run Battles since its inception. However due to extenuating circumstances, moving forward and upward the Battle of Columbus has disengaged from the Arnold Sports Festival, in which we have taken part from 2001-2005 and from 2017-2023. We spent many great years being a facet of the Arnold Sports Festival - which shared a similar vision to SGM Choi’s in bringing athletes and sports practitioners of so many different disciplines together in one city - and we are grateful for the time we had in being a part of this vision.
This having been said, over the past three years since the beginning of the pandemic, and especially after Supreme Grandmaster Choi’s passing, our extraordinary Battle of Columbus and OMAC team of leaders and volunteers have worked tirelessly to execute the Battle year after year and have dedicated so much of themselves and their time to preserving and growing upon SGM Choi’s Big Dream. After much earnest discussion with our leadership team and through profound personal deliberation, the decision has been made to have one year off from conducting the Battle of Columbus in 2024.

This is a decision that did not come at all easily, but separating from the Arnold has come to be a blessing in disguise. While my entire heart is and always will be all in to continue the legacy and the dream that my father had in creating the Battle of Columbus 47 years ago, we have been afforded the opportunity this coming year to reestablish our foundations within our Dojang to return bigger, better, and stronger for the best Battle of Columbus yet in 2025.

In this year, I dream of not only building upon my father’s Big Dream but of creating a wholly new and rejuvenated vision in which all martial artists of every generation can come together and grow together without ego, without prejudice, without exclusion - something we can create together in a unified dream for all martial artists around the globe.

I thank you all for your continued and steadfast loyalty and dedication (many of you since the founding of the Battle of Columbus!), and I truly look forward to what will come in 2025 for the Battle of Columbus!

In the unified spirit of Martial Arts,

Master Andy Moo-Hyun Choi
