Greetings, dedicated Martial Artists and supporters of Battle of Columbus for the past 41 years, It is hard to believe that it has been 41 years since I founded the Battle of Columbus in 1976 as a multidisciplinary championship!

The martial arts world can be seen as a microcosm of humanity – an interconnected community of many unique, distinct and exceptional groups and individuals coming together to comprise the many facets of a shining diamond. This has been my vision and the spirit of the Battle of Columbus for the past 41 years. Once again, the Battle of Columbus was a great success in its 42nd rendition on May 27, 2017. With hundreds of athletes and spectators from all across the United States, Canada, China, Korea, South America, Africa and Europe the Battle gave competitors of many disciplines a chance to meet and compete in an arena that has always fostered a sense of community in the spirit of martial arts.

It has been truly amazing hosting this event for so many years as an avenue to bring the martial arts world together in harmonious balance; and none of this incredible tradition could be possible without the continued support of martial artists and martial arts supporters like yourselves. In attending the Battle of Columbus, you have helped to continue progress in the integration and formation of a world of togetherness and inclusion. My most sincere appreciation goes to the Grandmasters, Masters, Instructors, Tournament Directors, Discipline leaders, Officials, Sponsors, Martial Arts Schools, Athletes, Spectators, and all those supporters who have shared in this vision to make it a reality over all these years.

Year after year we have grown together, and I assure you, it will only get bigger and better from here. I look forward to seeing you all again this year for the 42nd Battle of Columbus / Martial Arts World Games XVII. In the meantime, let us all take the spirit of the Battle of Columbus and the vision of a harmonious martial arts world, and continue to spread the message wherever we go all across the world!

Sincerely in the Spirit of Martial Arts,

Joon P. Choi, Supreme Grandmaster,
